A 1915 Grand Colonial Home In Pittsfield, Mass.

Built in 1915, this grand, manor-style Colonial brings to mind the phrase, “They don’t build ’em like they used to.” Then again, with seventeen rooms, six of them bedrooms (two of which are master suites—his and hers?), set on 2.6 acres of lawn with towering trees and gardens, all within an easy walk of downtown Pittsfield, Mass., “living large,” might be apt.

Three fireplaces in the downstairs alone (living room, dining room, and library; there’s one more upstairs) allow for a choice of cozy retreat from winter, and yet, flooded with natural light throughout, the house may be at its sunny best in spring or summer.

One small downside to such a gracious abode is that with five upstairs bedrooms and three full baths, you can’t really say, No, we couldn’t possibly put you up this weekend, with any degree of honesty. With a total of 6,592 square feet of living space, having enough room to welcome guests will never be a problem again. Getting them to leave, however, could be.—  $1,200,000 [JULY 2009]
