THE GUIDE Galleries: Robert Mateo Diago at Kolok Gallery
In his interactive installation and sculpture exhibit home·less·bound·ness, Robert Mateo Diago, of Texas, reflects on the nation’s homeless problem. His works, clean and uncomplicated in form, are mixed-media sculpture and wall pieces accented with vivid colors that use language and wordplay to stimulate dialogue about the issue.
One component of the exhibit, titled 108 Affordable Homes (shown), is made up of small house-shaped sculptures that have been coated with layers of paper, plaster, and paint, each with a single word painted on its underside. They sell for $75 to $125, putting them within reach of the novice art buyer, with 10 percent of all sales from the show being donated to Soldier On, a veteran’s village in Pittsfield, Mass. The exhibit will be at the Kolok Gallery in North Adams, Mass., through Sept 20. [September 2010]
