Brilliant, Mate!

“He’s still the Man of Kent, I’m just John,” quips current owner John Bombard about the Man of Kent’s original owner and native Englishman John Stoat. Though no longer running the traditional British-style pub as he has for the past twenty-plus years, Stoat still mans the bar, joking with regulars and laughing his way around the room adorned with a rainbow of beer, football (soccer), racing, and golf memorabilia. Bombard deftly mingles true English beers with stellar regional microbrews on tap and offers over a hundred bottled options, including nine varieties from popular organic brewery Samuel Smith, as well as mixed drinks and a mouthwatering selection of sandwiches. With the World Cup kicking off on June 11, there’s no better time to visit this popular pub for a cold pint and good conversation [JUNE 2010]
