Fringe Benefits

Theater, dance, music, multimedia, comedy, and a host of uncategorizable performance art deliriously collide for the sixth year in a row at the Berkshire Fringe, a three-week-long festival celebrating experimentation, creativity, and innovation. Based in the Daniel Arts Center on the campus of Simon’s Rock in Great Barrington, Mass., this year the Fringe expands programming to Mixed Company in downtown Great Barrington. This summer’s lineup includes Give Us Bread, about food riots on the Lower East Side in 1917, by the New York-based theater ensemble The Anthropologists (Aug 4-8), Viva La Evolucion, a one-woman show about growing up queer and Cuban in Miami by Diana Yanez (Aug 5-9), and It or Her [pictured], a dark comedy about obsession and repression in suburbia by Alena Smith (Aug 5-9). [AUGUST 2010]
