EVENTS: Medeski Martin & Wood

Having outlived the jam-band craze that saw the improvisational trio formed in 1991 headlining rock festivals, Medeski Martin & Wood return to their origins in underground jazz with this year’s three-album, three-tour project, the Radiolarian Series, named after a type of single-celled organism with a dazzlingly intricate exoskeleton.

 

The trio convenes for brief writing retreats, performs only that new material on tour, records the work immediately after getting off the road, and releases it as an album on their own Indirecto label. Be there for the latest edition of Radiolarian when MMW swings into the Hunter Center at MASS MoCA in North Adams, Mass., on November 12 at 8.
