Notchview Gets Busy: Cross-Country Skiing
Within its three thousand acres protected by the Trustees of Reservations, Notchview in Windsor, Massachusetts, has long boasted some of the best cross-country skiing in the region: seventeen kilometers of groomed trails for both classic and skate skiing, for starters. But Notchview kicks it up another notch with a flurry of events in January and February, beginning with a window of free skiing on January 9, from 10 to 3. One can ski or snowshoe, and even take part in snowshoe, skate, or classic ski lessons or a waxing clinic, and pay nothing.
And for night owls, Notchview serves up moonlight outings on January 28 and February 26. Along with traditional perks such as cider, popcorn, and the full moon, visitors are invited to join in a Japanese renga poetry group afterward to record their experience (January 28 at 7 to 9) or make s’mores over a campfire (February 26 at 7 to 9). No charge for Trustees of Reservations members; nonmember adults $10; children $2. [JAN/FEB 2010]
