While Neil Simon may have once been built for Broadway, it now seems as if he and regional theater are an excellent fit as well. With a Simon work, you pretty much know what you’re getting—the trick is in delivering the goods. And helmer Warner Shook and his six actors at the Berkshire Theatre Festival more than just revive this modern comedic classic: they breathe new life into The Prisoner of Second Avenue with an ensemble collaboration that feels relevant, timely, and surprisingly sweet.
