EPILOGUE: Berkshire Fringe Festival Celebrates Fifth Anniversary Season
According to its cofounder, Sara Katzoff, the Berkshire Fringe Festival [“On the Edge” by French Clements, July 2008] intends to get even edgier this year, making its fifth anniversary season a celebration of risk. Not that the nearly month-long festival (July 27-August 17) at the Daniel Arts Center at Simon’s Rock in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, hasn’t always been about risk, but this year it’s asking that audience members, too, get into the act by expanding their own comfort zones as viewers.
As always, there’s much to choose from: performances are ongoing all week (except for Tuesdays), and at an audience-friendly price: $15 for main events and $69 for a full pass. The festival kicks off on July 27 with Scored, this year’s gala celebrating artistic collaboration among dance, theater, and film, with five artists creating and performing original work. Other highlights include The Gay Agenda, featuring an “outrageous and outstanding comic duo with one simple mission: complete and utter world domination through show tunes,” and Circumference, a one-woman comedy about “size, sweat, and exercising … your demons.” —CN
