EPILOGUE: Stock Up For Winter
While the bevy of seasonal farmers’ markets [“Market Value” by Brittany Corbett, May 2009] closes down at the end of the harvest, our quest for local goods lingers long into the holiday season.
This year, to help farmers continue to sell their remaining produce and to aid hungry locavores as they prepare for Thanksgiving feasts, Barbara Zheutlin of Berkshire Grown and Nancy Thomas of Mezze, Inc., have teamed up to establish two Holiday Farmers’ Markets. These will be held the weekend before Thanksgiving in Williamstown and Great Barrington, Massachusetts, featuring carrots, potatoes, onions, rutabagas, beets, squash, pumpkins, cheeses, meats and poultry, breads, pies, and pickles from Berkshire Grown farmers such as Peace Valley Farm, Lakeview Orchards, Hidden Valley Farm, Mighty Food Farm, and Cricket Creek Farm, as well as goods from artisan producers.
Farm-fresh produce is still ready and waiting to compose enticing entrees, succulent sides, and decadent desserts—don’t forget your holiday shopping list! [NOV/DEC 2009]
